Multimedia Installation and Durational Performance
re-membering is a multimedia installation and interactive performance that examines the recall of memory and the image reconstructed in its wake. Generative collage and its source materials serve as a site for re-membering my Korean and American identities, in the process exposing fragments of my selves and cells, histories and chronologies, memories and dreams. Drawing on theories from Zainab Ali, Hito Steyerl, and Laura U. Marks, pixels are activated through a durational performance of scanning, flattening, and remixing images — unfolding new collaged forms that interrogate opacity and fidelity. A file cabinet holds memories of my past selves, inviting viewers to rifle through, select an image that resonates, and offer it to the collage-maker. They contribute to an evolving collage which remembers itself once again.
